PoetryJoin us for another fabulous month of Poetry at Postmark! Featured reader is Auburn's current Poet Laureate: Mateo Acuña.

Mateo Acuña is a queer and trans Peruvian-American poet, writer, and librettist. His work is published or forthcoming in Saxifrage, Creative Colloquy, The Madrona Project. The twenty-minute chamber opera he wrote in collaboration with composer Mina Pariseau, Blood Dawn of the Inti Sun, was performed at Seattle Opera in June. He was the 2023-2024 Seattle Youth Poet Laureate and currently serves as the 2024-2026 Auburn Poet Laureate. Dear Spanish, a chapbook of poetry published by Poetry Northwest, is his first book.

Garden ClubJoin us at Postmark Center for the Arts for free, all ages, arts, performance, and crafts! Every Second Saturday of the month from Noon-4:00 PM. 

Free Family Postmark Craft 12:00-4:00PM

Guest Artist 1:30-2:30PM: Join Postmark Center for the Arts and Auburn Garden Club for an introduction to Floral Design! In this all-ages demonstration learn design concepts from containers to texture and movement. Barbara Smith will lead this demo, and provide a raffle opportunity to attendees with a chance to win one of the three arrangements created that day! From 1:30 – 2:30 PM at Postmark Center for the Arts, 20 Auburn Ave, Auburn, WA, 98002. 

Guest Performer 2:30-3:30PM: Gretchen Yanover is Postmark’s guest performer this Saturday, using her electric cello and loop sampler, Gretchen builds layers of sound to create beautiful instrumental atmospheres.

In this Landscape drawing class, you will learn the fundamentals of drawing a

Still Life Drawing

In this Still Life Drawing Class, you will learn and practice the art of drawing from observation. You will be learning about light, shadow, value, and composition using traditional drawing materials. No materials or supplies are needed, as they will be provided for you. Drawing from life is an important practice for any artist, beginning or advanced. In this class, you will strengthen your skills at drawing as well as explore and express yourself through the drawing process.

Rhythm & RhymesJoin Auburn Symphony Orchestra and the Auburn Public Library for Rhythm and Rhymes Story Hour! Introduction to Chinese Gongbi Painting

Gongbi PaintingThis class introduces you to one of two brush-and-ink techniques Chinese artists employ in painting direct studies of the natural world on paper and ink.

In this class you will learn the basic skills needed to master Gongbi style of painting. You will be shown the correct way to hold the brush and how to mix and vary shades of ink used in ink washes.

All materials will be provided and experience is not necessary!

Ukulele for Adults

Ukulele for AdultsUkulele is a fantastic intro instrument! It’s a wonderful option for anyone wanting to have some fun making music. In this class you can expect to learn the basics of the ukulele, some popular songs, chord reading, and how to play as a group. Students should plan to bring their own ukulele (soprano or concert size) if possible. All course materials will be provided during classes.

This is a four-session class held every Wednesday evening from October 9th - 30th.

Ceramic Hand Building

Ceramic Hand BuildingLearn to make your own ceramic vessel using different hand-building techniques! Class will start with a demonstration on hand-building, and you will then be provided materials to create your own vessel, be it a small mug, cup, or dish. It will then be glazed and fired for you. Requires pick-up of artwork at Postmark Center for the Arts in the days following the class.

Holiday CardsIn this family-friendly class you will learn how to transfer an image to a linoleum block, carve the block, and print your own handmade holiday cards! Get into the festive spirit and maybe start a new tradition by trying this simple and fun printing process. All materials for this class will be provided. He has been performing from the age of ten throughout school in concert, symphonic and jazz bands developing his talents as a drummer and singer.
