Schedule an Inspection

In response to Governor Inslee’s Phase I Construction Restart addendum to Proclamation 20-25 implemented on April 24,2020, all construction activities that can meet a low-risk threshold of six foot distancing are able to resume. Along with the addendum, specific Job Site Requirements were also issued which include the requirement for contractors to develop and post a comprehensive COVID-19 exposure control, mitigation, and recovery plan.

In support of these recovery efforts, the City of Auburn will continue to provide inspection services for most commercial and previously unoccupied residential construction projects that are able to meet the job site requirements and have a COVID-19 exposure control, mitigation, and recovery plan in place.

In order to for us to provide those services, effective May 5, 2020, we will need each job site to confirm for us that they are meeting these requirements and have a plan in place by completing the Health Safety Plan Submittal Form (PDF) and submitting it along with their plan to inspections@auburnwa.gov.

Note that we will continue to suspend inspection services for previously occupied, habitable spaces and commercial areas associated with medical care at this time. However, we will accommodate requests for virtual inspections in cases where appropriate and feasible.

Once the above documentation has been received, it will be attached to the corresponding records in our permit tracking software and linked to the job site. Future inspection requests will be scheduled as normal and will not require plan or form submittals.

Inspectors who visit job sites will continue to wear personal protective equipment and conduct a no-contact inspection process as much as possible. We will continue to ask that inspection areas be sanitized and vacated prior to inspection to ensure the minimum 6-ft distancing is always maintained. Upon arrival, our inspector will call the job-site contact to let them know they are there and ask where they should go to sign the daily attendance log. Inspection corrections and guidance will continue to be provided in writing and by phone to limit direct contact. For job sites with specific visitor requirements other than those above, please include those requirements with your inspection request.

Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties has prepared a toolkit with some great resources and guidance information to assist contractors prepare their job sites. The toolkit includes plan templates, checklists, job site posters, and more. View the Master Builders Association Toolkit

HOMEOWNERS

Send an email to inspections (preferred method). Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day.

Advantages to Emailing An Inspection Request:

  • You will receive an email confirmation that your inspection has been scheduled.
  • Your email will be received by the inspectors themselves. This means it is a simple and convenient way to relay any special considerations or information that will help the inspector perform the inspection itself (common examples are specific details on the location of the work, gate codes, special time constraints, etc.).

Alternatively, homeowners are welcome to call our automated phone system (253-931-3020, option 3) and leave us a voicemail. Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day; you will not receive a confirmation phone call.

Whether by email or voicemail, your request must include the following information:

  1. Permit Number
  2. Job Site Address
  3. Your Name and Phone Number
  4. Type or Description of Inspection to be Performed

Tips for Homeowners

  • The cutoff time for inspections is 4:00 PM on business days. Inspections will automatically be scheduled for the following business day unless you request otherwise.
  • Inspections occur on business days roughly between 9:00 AM to noon (AM) and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (PM). While we cannot make appointments, we will do our best to honor inspection requests for certain time-frames (AM or PM).
  • The day of your inspection, please ensure that someone over the age of 18 is available at the job site. The inspector cannot enter the property otherwise.
  • If you have a contractor doing the work, you may find it useful for them to be present at the time of inspection. It is not required, however.
  • Please have your approved construction drawings and permit card on hand when the inspector arrives.

CONTRACTORS

If you are a contractor please make inspection requests through our Online Permit Center. The system will display your current permits and activity as your own personal dashboard.

You will have quick and convenient access to your active permits, quick inspection request options, past inspection results, and future required inspections for project planning.

You will need an account to access some of the features of the Online Permit Center. If you haven’t already set up an account, you can do so here: Account Setup.
Upon account creation you are free to use the Online Permit Center. Choose your company name from the drop down list and enter your password in the “password” field.

Alternatively, inspection requests can be sent via email to inspections. Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day, and you will receive an email confirmation.

If neither of the above two options are feasible, contractors can utilize the automated phone system (253-931-3020, option 3) and leave us a voicemail request. Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day; you will not receive a confirmation phone call.

Whether by email or voicemail, your request must include the following information:
