Yoshi Nakagawa
July 2 - August 27, 2026
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Yoshi Nakagawa at the Community Center Gallery, on view July 2 – August 27, 2026.
“There is great beauty and simplicity in our everyday lives - the respect for working by hand, finding enlightenment in something very repetitive, a childhood memory that resolves the present moment. This is what catches my imagination and propels me towards printmaking. Day-to-day objects and occurrences become metaphors to share my appreciation and convey human experience.
My attention to details, textures, and patterns of the natural world inspire me to create. My work is also influenced by Japanese textiles and experiences living in Mexico, Japan, and the Pacific Northwest. Specializing in printmaking since 1999, I use relief, intaglio, monotype, and mixed media, reveling in the methodical processes and acknowledging the gratification I feel when my work goes through the press.” – Yoshi Nakagawa
Yoshi Nakagawa is also the current Artist in Residence at Postmark Center for the Arts! Visit 20 Auburn Avenue to view her studio and chat with the artist when she is in.

Gillian Hunt
July 1 - September 2, 2026
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Gillian Hunt at the Cheryl Sallee Gallery, on view July 1 – September 2, 2026.
Gillian is a west coast artist inspired by the cycles of beauty and light found in nature. Her work has been shown in Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and Portland.
A scenic painter for film and television and a fine art painter, Gillian is always painting. She has worked on productions for Netflix, Nickelodeon, Disney, Peacock, and more. When not working, she can be found plain air painting with her filmmaker friends or studying floral references in her studio.
In her latest body of work, she uses acrylics to explore the cycles of change in nature, sunlight, and the seasons. The days pass, the flowers bloom and wilt, and each bittersweet change has its own beauty. Her paintings focus on budding tulips, the yellowing of cottonwood leaves, and plein air paintings chasing the light and the memory. She loves to find moments of bright pink or pale purple on the edges of shadows or in flower petals. She utilizes bold colors to create unity across the series of paintings and to express emotion.
Each piece examines the fleeting nature of both light and life, urging us to find beauty in change.
“A special thank you to The Sou’wester Lodge in Washington for hosting me as an artist in residence and allowing me time and space to add to this body of work.
Another special thank you to Estudio Corazon at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico for hosting me as an artist in residence.”
