Schedule an Inspection

In response to Governor Inslee’s executive order dated March 23, 2020 (and a follow-up memorandum on Construction Guidance dated March 25, 2020), Auburn City staff from Community Development and Public Works will continue to provide modified, no-contact inspection services for:

  • commercial and residential projects that are identified as essential (including but not limited to publicly financed low-income housing);
  • ongoing construction work to prevent spoliation, damage, and unsafe conditions; and
  • work that is emergency repair, replacement, or maintenance.

We continue to suspend in person inspection services in general for previously occupied homes, habitable spaces, and some medical care facilities.

In order to schedule an inspection, your project is required to be identified as essential for our records. This can be done by completing the Essential Work Form (PDF) clarifying how the associated project qualifies as exempt and returning by email to ffernandez@auburnwa.gov. Until this form has been completed and provided, we unfortunately will not be able to schedule your inspection. Once the form has been received, it will be incorporated into the permit/project inspection record and will not be needed for future requests.

For projects that have completed the above, no-contact inspections can be performed. In an effort to respect social distancing guidelines recommended by King County Public Health, we will ask that the area of inspection is sanitized and vacant. Our inspector will call the contact number provided to confirm when they arrive and leave the site. Any corrections will be communicated by email or phone.
We will continue to honor next day inspections requested prior to 4:00 PM whenever possible. In the event that an inspection will need to be re-scheduled, someone will be in touch via the contact method provided.

We anticipate this practice to be in place through at least the week of April 6, 2020.

Thank you for your understanding and apologies for any inconvenience.

HOMEOWNERS

Send an email to inspections (preferred method). Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day.

Advantages to Emailing An Inspection Request:

  • You will receive an email confirmation that your inspection has been scheduled.
  • Your email will be received by the inspectors themselves. This means it is a simple and convenient way to relay any special considerations or information that will help the inspector perform the inspection itself (common examples are specific details on the location of the work, gate codes, special time constraints, etc.).

Alternatively, homeowners are welcome to call our automated phone system (253-931-3020, option 3) and leave us a voicemail. Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day; you will not receive a confirmation phone call.

Whether by email or voicemail, your request must include the following information:

  1. Permit Number
  2. Job Site Address
  3. Your Name and Phone Number
  4. Type or Description of Inspection to be Performed

Tips for Homeowners

  • The cutoff time for inspections is 4:00 PM on business days. Inspections will automatically be scheduled for the following business day unless you request otherwise.
  • Inspections occur on business days roughly between 9:00 AM to noon (AM) and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (PM). While we cannot make appointments, we will do our best to honor inspection requests for certain time-frames (AM or PM).
  • The day of your inspection, please ensure that someone over the age of 18 is available at the job site. The inspector cannot enter the property otherwise.
  • If you have a contractor doing the work, you may find it useful for them to be present at the time of inspection. It is not required, however.
  • Please have your approved construction drawings and permit card on hand when the inspector arrives.

CONTRACTORS

If you are a contractor please make inspection requests through our Online Permit Center. The system will display your current permits and activity as your own personal dashboard.

You will have quick and convenient access to your active permits, quick inspection request options, past inspection results, and future required inspections for project planning.

You will need an account to access some of the features of the Online Permit Center. If you haven’t already set up an account, you can do so here: Account Setup.
Upon account creation you are free to use the Online Permit Center. Choose your company name from the drop down list and enter your password in the “password” field.

Alternatively, inspection requests can be sent via email to inspections. Your inspection will automatically be scheduled for the next business day, and you will receive an email confirmation.

If neither of the above two options are feasible, contractors can utilize the automated phone system (253-931-3020, option 3) and leave us a voicemail request.
